In the wake of 2020's global upheaval, amidst the uncertainty of a pandemic, I embarked on a journey that not only challenged me but transformed my perspective on education and resilience. Moving from Canada to the United States, I pursued my passion for curriculum and instructional design at Louisiana Tech University. This journey was not just about academic growth; it was a quest to discover how to make a meaningful impact in the world of education.
At Louisiana Tech University, Dr. Patsy Hughey's mentorship was transformative, teaching me the value of authenticity, ambition, and lifelong learning. This period, amidst the challenges of COVID-19 and my immigration, highlighted resilience—lessons reinforced by my experience teaching on an Indigenous reservation in Northern Canada, where I saw the deep impacts of intergenerational trauma but also immense community strength.
Realizing the limitations of my role in traditional teaching against systemic educational issues, Dr. Hughey's introduction to curriculum consulting pointed me towards a path where I could make a wider impact, leveraging my experiences and insights for broader educational reform.
